Meet Dr. Hines
Dr. Sarah Hines is a registered psychologist in Alberta (CAP#7405) and holds both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec.
Dr. Hines assists those with moderate to severe mental health challenges, including anxiety disorders, depression, concurrent disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder. Dr. Hines brings a wealth of experience to her practice. She also has specialized training in Health Psychology, which is a specific branch of psychology that uses psychological principles to aid in the promotion and maintenance of health as well as the prevention and treatment of illness. Her approach fosters a collaborative therapeutic environment, rooted in warmth and empathy, which serves as a catalyst for self-exploration, insight, healing, and personal growth.
Central to Dr. Hines' therapeutic philosophy is the belief that behaviour change driven by reconnecting with core emotions, releasing inappropriate guilt and shame, regulating anxiety, and developing healthy coping strategies. She adopts an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Affect Phobia Therapy (APT), as well as other evidence-based methodologies like motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and gut-focused hypnotherapy.
In her practice, Dr. Hines is dedicated to providing client-centered care that is tailored to the unique needs and goals of each individual she works with.
Sarah grew up playing basketball in BC and Alberta, and has coached youth basketball in Calgary extensively in the community and competitive leagues. She played adult intramural basketball and ultimate frisbee until recently transitioning to lower-impact activities. She enjoys spending time with Henri (pictured) who hopes to start on his journey to become a therapy-assist animal in the near future. Sarah also enjoys supporting local live music, volunteering for Calgary’s music festivals, strategic board games, and spending time in the mountains.
